Challenge Form For SDG Goals

Title: Digitalization Within The AgriCulture

Case Partner: Fraunhofer IMW Leipzig, Germany

Context

What we are eating has an impact on our health. AgriCulture also provides a magnificent income stream for thousands of people on our planet. Affected by global warming, wars, globalization, and the trend to make the local market stronger, this will all impact farmers’, sellers, consumers, and producers’ financial situation. Understanding all related aspects from an E2E and 360° perspective creates challenges.

Consumers like to know where their products come from, how they are being maintained, and whether this product fulfills the quality expectations, which is worth the price. And what are the possibilities to let all people participate in creating an impact in let this world sustain and get incentivized for their support and engagement to let it become a rule for everybody in our world in saving resources, protecting the environment, fostering reuse and more.

Problem Statement

Build a dApp that addresses one of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (Sustainability, Supply chain track records,…support for humanity)

What are we looking for?

  • #Regional Marketing: How can the region’s marketing of products, such as organic meat, be strengthened with digital solutions so that more time remains for the work on the farm? What solutions can support direct sales using blockchain technology, for example?
  • #Irrigation: Many irrigation systems in fruit growing are operated manually. How can existing systems be supplemented so that, depending on the weather, the fields are irrigated automatically and in a water-saving manner?
  • #Bureaucracy: More and more time has to be spent on bureaucracy and documentation. How can this effort be noticeably reduced?
  • #Quality: Due to severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain, nutrients are leached out of the soil, impacting product quality. How can this effect be counteracted, taking into account weather situations? How can a constant quality be guaranteed and proven?
